Welcome to the Skills Forum
We understand the importance of developing skills that serve the hydrogen world, to ensure the industry has “the right people, with the right skills at the right time” to accelerate the transition from fossil to hydrogen energy.
We’ve created a host of upskilling opportunities, to ensure that the South West is poised to become a centre of excellence for hydrogen expertise.
Hydrogen Pathways Bootcamp
The Hydrogen Skills Bootcamp is designed and developed for those working in the aerospace, advanced manufacturing, construction, logistics and distribution sectors.
Hydrogen Awareness Training Modules
These modules are an important step for individuals or businesses either considering working with Hydrogen or already working with hydrogen.
They are designed to be a first step that can lead to further learning and understanding.
Our Vision and Mission
Developing, rolling out, and running on a new fuel is complex, and there are many interdependencies between projects. For one to succeed, others must be in place to support, and multiple industries must work together. Hydrogen South West is the connector, creating partnerships among those who make, move and use hydrogen.
But it is not just about the technology, you need the people and skills to develop and more crucially deliver these in the right places at the right time. All parts of the Hydrogen ecosystem are competing for a scarce resource. Linking with education and skills has never been more important.
Key to Hydrogen South West’s efforts, are enhancing and delivering new skills support and awareness to enable more job opportunities to ensure a sustainable future, building the skills pipeline early.
Underpinning Working Groups
Each of the working groups championed by Hydrogen South West are underpinned with an educational representative who works to gather the intelligence from their group and collaborate with the other educational leads in other groups to develop and deliver a curriculum and support to the wider South West community.
Leading the way
The South West was recently selected by Department for Energy Security and Net Zero for a pilot project for the Acceleration of Skills into the region, with a particular focus on transportation. This pilot project brought education and industry together to map occupational roles and ensure training was in place for the users of the technology.
Educational membership benefits
In addition to all the benefits of becoming of becoming a Hydrogen South West Associate Member, Associate membership will enable Academic institutions in the South west to:
Market their learning and training capability directly to the Hydrogen South West data base of Companies with an interest in the Hydrogen sector. This data base is currently c200 and increasing.
Facilitate Hydrogen South West Skills Forum to lobby Government for Hydrogen related funding under a regional Hydrogen Skills strategy. Recent efforts enabled the Hydrogen Skills Accelerator to be piloted locally.
Enable regional education institutions with an interest in developing and delivering Hydrogen learning and training in the South West to collaborate. This collaboration has been essential to promote the excellence of the South West in leading efforts to meet the Government targets for Hydrogen by 2050. This collaboration initiative is supported by the regional public sector authorities.
